Sun Temple ,Dev--++ Situated in Aurangabad district of Bihar Bhuvan Bhaskar Temple Dev is the most famous place for Chhath Puja. This temple has features of KalingaPrasad. It has curvilinear Sikhara surmounted by massive Amalaka. Beki of the shrine is conspicuous. Rahapag , Anurathpag and Kanikapag are also prominent. Initially it had several subsidiary shrines. Temple has large mahamandap with lateral transepts like Madhydesiyaprasada . It is perceived as the oldest living temple of Lord Sun. According to Late Shri Ramdeo Tiwari whose ancestors owned it and worked as Cheif Purohit Dev was called Devark in ancient times. This temple had originally a large icon of Sun but it was defaced and damaged. In later Mughal period the decedents of Garbhu Tiwari known by the epithet Bhoji Agrahar Bhumihar Bhumidhar Brahmin Eksariya Parasar conducted the Jirnodhar , ritual rejuvenation and enshrined images of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh as three facets of Sun. In front of the temple there was Arun Stambh that was erected at the center of Savita Tadag,a sacred pond where presently Chhath puja is performed. The temple remained under the family of Eksariya clan of village Erki before it was transfered to Bihar DharmikNyas Board. The present ritualists are however Sakaldvipi Brahmins of nearby subtown Patalganga who assisted Eksariya Bhumihars till 1960.In recent past certain additions have been made in the name of restoration that has changed its historic fabric and outlook.
